Outdoor stag do in Millau: how to plan a great weekend

Organising a stag or hen weekend for a friend? Here's how I shape a stag or hen weekend in Millau, after looking after about fifty groups.

The format that works

Two days, one night, two activities. That's the formula 80% of the groups I host go for. Shorter feels frustrating. Longer becomes tiring and expensive. The typical schedule:

  • Friday evening: arrival, dinner together in a Millau restaurant or in a rented cottage.
  • Saturday morning: activity 1 (via ferrata du Boffi or canyon Tapoul).
  • Saturday lunch: picnic on site or restaurant.
  • Saturday afternoon: activity 2 (chosen to complement the morning).
  • Saturday evening: free time. Cooking at the cottage, a restaurant, a bar in Millau.
  • Sunday morning: easy recovery, brunch, departure around midday.

Choosing the activities

My favourite combinations depending on the group's mood:

  • Sporty group: via ferrata du Boffi (morning) + canyon du Tapoul (afternoon). More committing.
  • Mixed-level group: via ferrata de Liaucous + canyon du Bramabiau or Tayrac. Gentler.
  • Contemplative group: via ferrata de Liaucous + canyon de la Dourbie. Calm and nature-focused.
  • Original group: via ferrata + paragliding. An aerial view over everything you've just done.
A successful stag or hen weekend is when the bride or groom-to-be remembers the landscape and the friends three years later, rather than the big meal on Saturday night.

The accommodation

For 6 to 10 people, I recommend a group cottage in Mostuéjouls, Le Rozier or Saint-Jean-du-Bruel. I know several good addresses well (happy to pass on contacts). For more than 10, Millau is easier (larger cottages or several small flats).

The restaurants

My recommendations in Millau:

  • Aveyron regional cuisine: restaurants in the old town, around Place du Maréchal Foch.
  • Brasseries with a terrace on the banks of the Tarn for lunch.
  • Pizzas and southern French cuisine for groups who want it simple and tasty.

I can give you specific suggestions based on group size, budget, and vibe.

The budget

For a stag or hen group of 8 over a weekend with two activities and a cottage:

  • Outdoor activities: around €95/person for a full-day package.
  • Cottage for 2 nights: €60 to €100/person depending on standard.
  • Restaurants and groceries: €80 to €120/person for the weekend.
  • Estimated total: €235 to €315/person for the full weekend (travel not included).

The booking timing

In high season (June to September, especially weekends), book 6 to 8 weeks ahead. For weekends in May, September or October, 4 weeks is enough. Off-season (March-April, November), 2 weeks.
